When moving to a new country with perhaps a vastly different culture, people may find it important that their children keep in touch with their heritage. Rotterdam is not only home to a plethora of different cultures, but also a variety of  language schools and culture hubs. Finding the right school for your children might be difficult when moving to another city, let alone another country. That is why we have compiled a list of cultural institutions that provide weekend classes alongside regular weekday education, specialised in different linguistic and/or cultural areas.

Japanese Saturday School

The Japanese Saturday school, situated in the Japanese School of Rotterdam, offers courses in the Japanese language, mathematics and arithmetic, which can be followed alongside public or international schooling on weekdays. Situated within the Japanese School in Rotterdam building it provides a perfect location for fully Japanese education within Rotterdam both on weekdays and on the weekends. This school offers 41 days of school per year from 10 am until 2:30 pm.

Danhua Chinese School

This Chinese school teaches kids all the way up to junior high. With a specially designed curriculum that teaches children Mandarin Chinese as well as Chinese culture, simplified Chinese writing and even martial arts.

Russian Saturday Schools

There are several Russian language and cultural institutions in Rotterdam that offer classes on the weekends in both the Russian language and Russian culture such as literature classes, musical classes and many more. The three largest schools are:

Polish Saturday School

The Polish Saturday School offers Polish language and culture classes on Saturdays for children aged 3 to 12, as well as hosting many Polish cultural activities in and around the Rotterdam area to spread awareness about Polish culture.
